Acupuncture is one of the most widely used modalities in Traditional Oriental Medicine. It is a form of treatment where a needle is inserted into the body at specific points to induce a specific body’s response like relieving pain, reducing inflammation or balancing metabolism. Historically needles were made of bone, wood and later copper, but in modern times acupuncturists use sterile single use needles manufactured from stainless steel, to avoid the spread of the infectious diseases. There are various different acupuncture styles and techniques that range from depth of the needling to the amount of needles used each treatment. Acupressure
Acupressure in an acupuncture technique where pressure is applied to the acupuncture points with fingers or various instruments to stimulate the point and induce the desired result. Points may be local - where the problem area is, or distal - far from the problem area. At our clinic Acupressure is often used as an alternative to needles for some children, elderly, sensitive patients or patients with severe trypanophobia (the fear of needles).
